Doing business in China

Date

:

24 July 2004

Venue

:

J. W Marriott, Kuala Lumpur (Jointly held with Sin Chew, sponsored by Telekom)

Course Objective :
Conducting a business successfully in China is not just having the ability to speak Mandarin fluently. It requires more than that. You need to understand the psyche of the nation and her people - to do that you need to understand China, her history, her people and her culture in depth. To have a deep understanding of China and her people, you need to do your homework and groundwork. To help us understand China better, her point of view, her psyche, this talk will start with China's past and some world history and then bring us to the present before examining China's prospects. I will not talk about how to set up a business or the ways to recruit your staff or how to repatriate your profit. This talk will instead focus on the macro aspects for doing business in and with China. It is an aspect that is overlooked by most. China is a very, very big topic. There will be plenty of generalisations and simplifications today.
